Re: NSPCC Programmes –‘Let’s talk PANTS’ & ‘Speak out, Stay safe’
Dear Parents/Carers,
The NSPCC Schools Service has a wide range of services that it has developed, which are aimed at providing safeguarding messages to primary school children and/or their parents/cares. The NSPCC Schools Service wishes to work in partnership with schools to deliver these messages through programme assemblies and workshops for children from the age of 5 to 11 and/or their parents.
In term three NSPCC PANTS Fortnight is delivered to P1 and P2 children. Through discussions and activities in class we will aim to teach our pupils important safety skills without giving explicit information or telling scary stories. We will be teaching our pupils the NSPCC’s, Talk PANTS rules using the ‘PANTS’ acrostic, which is like a green cross code for staying safe from sexual abuse.
PANTS stands for:
- Privates are private.
- Always remember your body belongs to you.
- No means no.
- Talk about secrets that upset you.
- Speak up, someone can help.
In term one to coincide with ‘Kindness Week’ NSPCC ‘Speak Out, Stay Safe’ will be delivered to P3-P7 children.
Speak out. Stay safe. helps children:
- Understand and recognise different forms of hurt/abuse (age-appropriate language used).
- Understand that hurt is never a child’s fault, and they have the right to be safe.
- Know how to get help, and the sources of help available to them, including our Childline service.
- Identify safe adults at school and outside of school.
NSPCC Schools Service provides:
- Access to our pre-recorded KS1 and KS2 Virtual Assemblies featuring Ant and Dec and our mascot Buddy.
- Lesson plans.
- Display packs.
- Volunteer – Led Workshops for P3, P6 and P7 (subject to availability).
- Support for meeting your school’s safeguarding duties.
KS1 and KS2 Virtual Assemblies, lesson plans and display pack are all facilitated by school staff either in Key Stage assemblies or during class time. Volunteer – Led Follow Up Workshops for P3, P6 and P7 are usually arranged for no later than 2 weeks after seeing the pupils watching the Virtual Assemblies. The KS2 workshops are 60 minutes in length, the KS1 workshops are 30 minutes both include interactive discussion and activities. Further information and advice is available online:

If you have any concerns or wish to discuss anything, please contact the school office or inform the school in the comments box when completing NSPCC permission survey form. Above all, please talk with your child about what they are learning at school and share your views with them. Let’s help our children learn about these sensitive issues together. Please be mindful that we cannot be held responsible for the conversations children will have about RSE outside of the classroom/lessons. We appreciate your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Ciaran McElroy
Principal
